"Ex" has an incredible racing pedigree, and sold for big money as a yearling. However, shortly after purchase, while being transported to a trainer, he was involved in a horrific trailer accident, and sustained a severe injury to his right shoulder. The vet patched him, up, and the owner put him into training anyway. He raced a few times, but the limited range of motion from the injury hampered his running. By this time, the constant pain had resulted in a horse that was snappy and hard to work with. Ex was sent to an auction known for its kill buyers. He caught our eye and we picked him up for a song. After an extensive veterinary evaluation, corrective surgery was done on his shoulder. Years of physical therapy and slow conditioning followed, and with the abatement of the pain Ex became a manageable horse again. Now, and age 18, he still bears scars, but has regained full use of the shoulder. He is now able to show in showjumping, an accomplishment no one imagined when he arrived with us. In addition, Ex has become a wonderful sire of race horses. His offspring have won over $5,000,000 in prize money. Explosive has produced winners of the Kentucky Derby (MyMoneyOnMyMind-2006), The Arlington Million (Powerslave-2007), The St. Leger Stakes (Powerslave-2007), The Oceanport Stakes (BisforB*tch-2007), and many lesser races.
